About the event
This is a two-part workshop series that aims at empowering Asian international students in Canada to speak up against racism in different ways.
When signing up, please register for both sections as workshop 2 builds on knowledge from workshop 1.
Part 1: Anti-Asian Racism - What is it? How is it Experienced?
In Part 1 of our ACENet Anti-Asian Racism workshop, our goals are to help our students familiarize themselves with key vocabulary (e.g. racism, bias, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination), gain an understanding of their rights, and how to access support.
The workshop includes interactive activities and strives to create a brave, yet safe space for students to learn and share their experiences.
Part 2: Recognizing and Addressing Anti-Asian Racism
In Part 2 of our ACENet Anti-Asian Racism workshop, our goals are to help students learn how to advocate for themselves when they witness discrimination as bystander or when it is directed personally at them. Participants will deepen their understanding and skills to confront prejudice.
The workshop includes interactive activities and strives to develop student voice and greater confidence to speak up against racism.
Developing Personal Power and Confidence
Upon completion of Part 1 and 2 of our Anti-Asian Racism workshops, we hope that our international students will feel more empowered and confident in their abilities to address racism and related incidents.
